Scenario Details

  • Frank is a 19-year-old college freshman. His roommate complained to the dorm supervisor that Frank had not showered in 2 weeks and that he kept talking to himself
  • Frank was brought to Student Health Services and then sent to the local community hospital where he was hospitalized on the psychiatric inpatient unit
  • This is Frank’s first experience with psychiatric care. He has no history of problems that merited medical attention and was on the honor roll in high school
  • Frank’s mental state came as a shock to his parents—they state, “He was never like this before…Could he have what Uncle Jim had?”
