Scenario Details

  • Anthony is a 35-year-old man living by himself and was brought to the emergency room by his parents in the context of worsening paranoia
  • Anthony has been receiving treatment for schizophrenia for 7 years and during this time has been able to get a job at a supermarket and rent a room
  • After his first and only hospitalization, he was started on an LAI. His symptoms had substantially improved, although he still experienced occasional auditory hallucinations and suspiciousness, which rarely influenced his behavior. These intermittent psychotic symptoms would tend to worsen when he was late for his injection but improved with the medication
  • About 2 months ago he started becoming preoccupied at work with his boss, got into arguments with her, and was eventually fired. After having lost his job, he continues to worry that she is threatening him and is planning to leave the state out of this concern, although his parents reassure him that there is no actual threat
  • Anthony has had 3 delays in getting his injection over the past year, though never longer than 2 weeks. He received the last injection one week ago
